House Systems

The House System is designed to embody the values and ethos of the school. It is an integral part of our school community and allows every pupil and member of staff to feel a sense of belonging by becoming a member of a school house. By being a member of the house family, pupils and staff are encouraged to show team spirit. The houses are made up of all pupils from Year One through to Year Six.

The history behind the houses: In recent years Newbridge Houses have been named Red, Green and Blue. In 2013, the house names were chosen by our Upper School pupils selecting them from historic, inspirational and iconic famous people of the 19th century whilst the Lower School refer to the house colours associated with each house. There are three houses at Newbridge Preparatory School:
Nightingale (Blue)
Pankhurst (Green)
Seacole (Red)

House Captains
At the beginning of the academic year meetings are held by members of staff to elect House Captains. One pupil from Year Six is elected from each house. The job of the house captains is to take responsibility for the leadership and organisation of their house throughout the forthcoming academic year.

House Competitions
There are many house events throughout the year from all areas of school life. This blend ensures that everyone has the opportunity to represent their house in something that they enjoy or are good at. For example house events include:
• Cross Country
• Music
• Drama
• Netball
• Rounders
• Sports Day
• Tennis

Pupils quickly form an allegiance to their house and a sense of fun and friendly competition pervades all the house events. House points are added together and the house with the most points at the end of the year will win the overall house competition.
